Game Story
Four years after the events of the first game Ellie, the survivor of Cordyceps Brain Infection outbreak returns as the protagonist and is now 19 years old. Ellie settled in Jackson along with Joel, her guardian and a former smuggler who bonded with her while transporting her to the Fireflies who wanted to kill her in hope of creating a CBI Outbreak vaccine. Joel on knowing the truth killed the Fireflies.

Unaware of the truth Ellie now sets off from Jackson for revenge in search of Joel and Tommy. Ellie is accompanied by Dina and Jesse, both of whom are her friends and residents of Jackson. Throughout the game Ellie develops a relationship with Dina who was Jesse’s ex-girlfriend and is now pregnant. Ellie, while following Tommy confronts Abby in Seattle who is a member of Washington Liberation Front (WLF) and a former member of the Fireflies. Abby seeks revenge against Joel for killing her father. Ellie encounters Saraphites, a religious cult while searching for Norah Harris, Abbay’s friend. Ellie tortures Norah to gather information about Abby and also kills Mel and Owen Moore, both of whom were Abby’s friends and group members. Abby, while searching for Owen, gets abducted by the Seraphites for investigating them. Lev and Yara, the former members of Seraphites and apostate banded siblings rescue and accompany Abby to assist her. Yara dies while letting Lev and Abby escape. Abby shoots Tommy when she finds out Mel and Owen are dead and spare Ellie and Dina’s life compelling them to leave Seattle.
An year later, Ellie leaves with Tommy again in search of Abby leaving Dina and her son behind. Ellie follows Abby’s whereabouts from Tommy and rescues both Lev and Abby from Santa Barbara where they were kept captives by the slave-keeping Rattlers. Two of Ellie’s fingers are injured during a fight between Ellie and Abby. Ellie spares Lev and Abby as she recalls her conversation with Joel. Abby and Lev sail off to the Fireflies while injured Ellie returns to the abandoned farmhouse where she left Dina and her son. Devastated Ellie plays Joel’s guitar with her injured hand, recalls her promise to Joel and leaves the farmhouse.
